How We Helped VPS

Background

VPS has expanded significantly through both acquisitions and organic growth and this led to the development of an Information Systems (IS) strategy which recognised information as a corporate asset which needs to be secured, managed, developed and exploited for business benefit.

The VPS IS strategy has five guiding principles for its systems:

  • Accessibility/Security
  • Scalability
  • Managed services
  • Compliance
  • Cost Effective

One of the key strategies is to deliver a solid infrastructure platform.

The Requirement

To achieve a solid infrastructure platform VPS recognised that it must provide a high quality, sustainable group wide infrastructure which is scaleable, secure, industry standard, managed.

The propagation of remote offices and depots meant that the traditional distributed client/server architecture would not support the VPS group expansion requirements.

To meet these requirements which included ease of integration and to centralise data and application delivery VPS created a design specification and approached a number of organisations to submit a proposal which met or exceeded that specification.

From the designs submitted, Redfox were selected based on their expertise as well as being cost effective. Redfox have become VPS’s strategic partner for delivery and support of its core systems infrastructure platform.

The Solution

Redfox’s proposal was based upon the installation of Citrix Access Suite infrastructure which allows users secure and instant access to enterprise applications, information, processes no matter where they are located, from anywhere and anytime, using multiple devices, over any connection.

Redfox facilitated VPS’s centralized hosting of applications and data at their headquarters located in Borehamwood (UK) using IBM Bladecenter technology along with Windows Server 2003 and Citrix Presentation Server Access Suite. The applications and data were published securely to the local and remote users providing a stable and flexible IT infrastructure.

Redfox have a managed services agreement with VPS for the ongoing support of the solution, supplementing the VPS in house resources.

The investment has provided VPS with a reliable, accessible, secure and scaleable systems infrastructure platform to continue with its rapid expansion plans and development and delivery of its business systems applications.
